Never stops hurting

In the check out line at Wal.Mart earlier:

Cashier: (looking at Evan) "Is he your only child?"

Me: "No, I have a 4 month old at home." (I continue trying to put my bags back into the cart)

Cashier: "Aww a little one! Boy or girl?"

Me: "Girl." (keeping my answer short)

Cashier: "Well that's perfect. A boy and a girl, you don't need anymore."

Yeah, perfect.

Bloody hell. I continue to be amazed at our society's idle need for chitchat. Because it never ends well for we the bereaved. I bet widows get the same kind of crap all the time, too.

Though our other children bring joy to a sorrowful soul, it is not perfect. Not by a long shot.

"You don't need anymore"?? WTF??
Your children are not a pair of runners! People say the most odd things.

Hmmm. I guess if I was having a bad day I would have just said, "No." But some people wouldn't even take that as a hint to shut the f up.

No it doesn't stop hurting. I've tried to redeem the hurt by avoiding inflicting it on other folks in their sore spots.
